Next month, on Nov. 11, Canada marks what we call Remembrance Day. Far from being what some people among us call a glorification of war, on this day we remember the heroic men & women who have died in conflicts around the globe to preserve our freedoms and our right to worship our Lord. It also recognizes Veterans, as well as currently serving men and women.
Canada's 133 (and counting
) servicemen and -women who have died in Kandahar Province, Afghanistan, are our nation's first combat deaths since Korea, and so this hymn has taken on a deeper meaning for us here.
God bless the brave men & women of all nations who answered the call to serve their country!

Amen Liz! From President Reagan's 1983 Proclamation of the Year of the Bible: The Bible and its teachings helped form the basis for the Founding Fathers' abiding belief in the inalienable rights of the individual, rights which they found implicit in the Bible's teachings of the inherent worth and dignity of each individual. This same sense of man patterned the convictions of those who framed the English system of law inherited by our own Nation, as well as the ideals set forth in the Declaration of Independence and the Constitution... Many of our greatest national leaders -- among them Presidents Washington, Jackson, Lincoln, and Wilson -- have recognized the influence of the Bible on our country's development. The plainspoken Andrew Jackson referred to the Bible as no less than "the rock on which our Republic rests." Today our beloved America and, indeed, the world, is facing a decade of enormous challenge. As a people we may well be tested as we have seldom, if ever, been tested before. We will need resources of spirit even more than resources of technology, education, and armaments. There could be no more fitting moment than now to reflect with gratitude, humility, and urgency upon the wisdom revealed to us in the writing that Abraham Lincoln called "the best gift God has ever given to man . . . But for it we could not know right from wrong."
Life without God is like an unsharpened pencil- it has no point. Hebrews 11:1 (NIV) Now faith is being sure of what we hope for and certain of what we do not see.

I am part of a group based in Maryland called Operation Welcome Home. We go to BWI-Marshall airport & greet the troops as they return from serving in the Middle East. All of these troops that we greet are American but country doesn't matter. What matters is that troops from all over the free world are fighting to bring freedom to those who don't have it. On November 11th we should have CIP sponsored times of Prayer & Praise in different games & at different times during the day so that people can have fun, fellowship & a chance to remember our brave military personnel. I'm willing to host a time in Addiction Solitaire. Is anyone else interested in this idea? Tom

I'm planning MiniGolf Madness for Nov. 11 tribute to service people. I was thinking 3 pm Eastern, in topics tab room Maple Leafs. I'm flexible so if that time interferes with anyone else's, I will be glad to accept suggestions as to when.

If I follow a hockey team, it's the Edmonton Oilers...but my passion these days is the beautiful game that 99% of the world calls football and the rest insist on calling soccer.

I won't be able to keep my obligation for a Meet & Greet today! On Oct. 31st, while I was at work, my husband decided to make a fire in our fireplace. This is the first time the fireplace has been used since we purchased our home in April. Unknown to him, the chimney was blocked and we have had extensive smoke damage. A cleaning crew has been here for a couple of days, and machines have been used to remove the smell from the air. They will be returning 'sometime' today to finish up plus an evaluation will be done to determine if the interior needs to be repainted. Since we still smell smoke, however no where near as much, it looks like repainting is going to be necessary. I'm sorry that I won't be able to hold the Meet & Greet today! If I am able to attend Tom's or Liz's I will!
