Author Jesse Rice (The Church of Facebook) presents some startling facts about the social networking phenomenon known as Facebook:
Now consider this: In the first quarter of 2009, five million people joined Facebook every week. In addition, Facebook's membership doubled from one hundred million to two hundred million people from August 2008 to March 2009. Perhaps most incredible, the vast majority of its members--140 million, in fact--have only been on the rolls since February 2007. That's 140 million new users in just over two years.]
The question then becomes: WHAT are all these people seeking so desperately? In psychological terms, what they're looking for is called "connection"--significant relationships with others.
Our Lord Jesus Christ, in his time on earth, quite obviously knew the importance of this deep need in human beings. He went where the people were. In His time, that was the synagogue; the Jerusalem Temple; the shores of Galilee; the streets of countless villages and towns. In our time, seems like "where the people are" is online, specifically on social networks like Facebook. What an opportunity for us who bear Christ's Name to witness to the ultimate and ultimately only important connection--a relationship with our magnificent Lord and Saviour!
I know that others feel a deep leading from the Lord to dissassociate from such networking. However, I also feel a deep conviction that this could be, in our "hyperconnected" world, an evangelistic option to be embraced.

I agree, but I believe that some are called to witness there, and some aren't. I don't think it is for me, but I do know that I'm called to pray for those that can. People HAVE to be reached now, before it's too late. They aren't going to come to us for information, we have to seek them out. I pray that those who are called to witness in the various social sites are able to stay focused on what they are called to do, and that others are behind them in the prayer lines. We all have a job to do, and God will lead us to where He wants us to be.

Well worded Charlene. No matter where we are, whether it be in the virtual world, or the real world, we need to be focused on our task. No one should go to where they will be easily distracted, but if you are to go somewhere, go, before God makes you or hands it off to someone else. (Bible devotional on this this week.) No matter where you are or who you are, we all have a duty to pray for those in the battlefield; then we go find our own battlefield we are called to and do God's will.
In His service, Brian

Well Jackie, if Facebook is making you struggle, you know what I'm going to say. It is not a superiority issue if one can handle a situation that another cannot. We each have our weaknesses, otherwise we would not have need for the Lord's strength. If something is a distraction to the Lord's work, cast it aside. There, I am certain, are areas where I would struggle in which many of CIP would not be at all bothered by, and fortunately, there are those who gladly charge in the Lord's name into areas I could not. My job is to charge into the areas I can, and trust the Lord to put Christian soldiers into the areas I cannot, with all credit to our Commander-in-Chief.

Hi every one. I found face book, Just this year Last Jan through a Mmember here in cip. It helped me stay connected with my Church family and some friends. I try not to Let to Many People on my face book!!! For one i protect my Church Family..I belive that is what we are supposed to do?Protect our Family. We have a good time on our spare time in Face book!..It is not a Life to Live in where there are people who Do live on it..Sorry not for me..I stay connected...We Like to share a word of encouragement for the day and stay upto date with what is going to come up in our church..And that is it!~ We go on with on our Lives.
Cip has been the greatest thing that has happend in my Life, and i still Thank God for that..This would not be here if it was not for God. Love you all. Brother in Christ, Kenny

Great way to use it, Kenster! I find it a fun way to keep in touch with people from multiple churches, and a way to help people get in touch with ministries, as well as helping ministries seperated by distance cooperate. Every once in a while, its a good spot to take a good Christian ribbing (Captain Caveman I am now known by to some , Right my fellow caveman? Allen? ) Like on CIP, I see others being lifted up. It also allows those who end up calling me "friend" to get regular doses of the gospel. Here in CIP we know we are brothers and sisters in the Lord. We can't do much soul-winning in here. What we get here is encouragement, and tools to grow in Christ, and in turn, reach others with the gospel. Out there, just like in Pogo, the fields are white, and He is calling for harvesters. Wherever we are at, we need to remember why we are there; to harvest. In His service, Brian

As an Elder of my church (since passed to his reward) always said, "God loves oddballs. He must, he made so many of us".
Seems Allen & Brian and two cases to prove the rule.
